How much for a basic website?

What would be the approximate cost to have a basic website designed?

I only need something simple but that looks professional of course. No more than 5 pages, about us, contact form, gallery etc.

I've been messing around with Wordpress for hours without success! Think I just need to face up to the fact that I'm clueless with with this and get some help...

Thanks,
MrsI

There is website design - ie - colours, look and feel etc but that is only part of the process - you need to consider :-

Hosting costs
Adding the content - do you have content ready to go or expect someone else to create
If you want your website to be functional ie - file uploads, contact forms, Facebook likes, subscription areas etc - these need to be tested and added etc.
If using Wordpress - you'll need to find a template (or have one created for you)
Again if using Wordpress - there are maybe certain plugins you want - these have to be updated / maintained / tested / backed up - so you maintenance issues basically - cost.

Once you have this - assuming you want you site to be found - you'll need to some keyword research, then optimise your website pages for the keywords etc - onsite SEO

Offsite SEO - Social Media etc

'just' having a website designed can be a very small question - or a complex one depending on requirements - do requirements first and build second.

PM me ONLY if you A. Have budget and B. Need any of the above

Properly, there are two individual price factors active in the development regarding a site.
The very first is any small price that includes this signing up of this domain in addition to everything you pay out the world wide web hosting company to rent payments the net space intended for web hosting service the internet site. The second is everything you pay out anyone to truly create the internet site for you personally.

Nelson, I've never seen anyone make such a simple statemnt of fact into such a complex post. Why didn't you just say: you need to pay for hosting and site development.

There is no minimum word count per post!

Hi - there's lots of designers on here who would be able to help

From our perspective, we'd usually charge around £200-£250 for that including a years free web hosting and training on how to keep it updated yourself.

I think this is pretty much what you can be looking to pay. The training aspect and being able to do it yourself is important so that you aren't splashing out £25 - £50 here and there when you want to add a page or add some wording.

It also depends on your industry, is it a local business? Will you need the site to be aimed at getting local leads? (ie a plumber or carpenter) or is it an online business where you want to be emailed?

Without posting the most annoying answer of "how long is a piece of string", do you mind posting some examples of sites that you want to match in quality and size and someone can give you a realistic estimate.

HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! We too can quote you at a similar price range as most of the others, but we would first like to the the level of finish / type of design your looking for. One persons basic can be another persons complex!

Also you should question do you really need a CMS, we have over 12 years experience and have found for the most part, people either don't need them or don't make proper use of them. We have training videos and support to help anyone use our systems. But unless your going to make daily, weekly or even monthly changes your probably better off paying us to do it for you

REMEMBER, What might take you the best part of a day to do, may only take us the best part of an hour..

I have deleted a number of posts off this thread as they were all basically self promotion. The problem is that the rules state that if the OP wants a member to tender for the work then the post should go in the tenders forum and only full members can view and respond. Here in the public forums the general question (about how much does it cost) should be answered with a general reply NOT "we can do this for you please PM" type responses.
