How much are domains worth ?

    Hi

    I posted recently with regradfs of domain value.

    Does anyone no where the best place to go to find out how much a domain is worth ?

    Their are so many companies that apparently all say different. Is their a particular one that more people use to find a accurate price.

    I own a few now and am curious as i might add them onto a market.

    I always serch for domains for fun and sometimes find a few that are available that I think maybe worth a few pounds.

    I have recently bought

    ftse500.com

    partystarpoker.com

    partystarspoker.com

    saucypoker.com

    and loads more.

    I just wat to find a rough evaluation.

    Their only worth what someone is willing to pay. Avoid the domain appraisals as they'll charge you £30-60 and not really tell you anything you don't know and will probably give an over inflated valuation. This service can be good if you have a sure fire winner like money dot com.

    Why not list on a site like Sedo and just sit back and wait, see what someone bids. I've sold a couple of domains I sat on for 3 yrs at a nice little profit but I would not have actually thought they were worth what was paid. You never know.

    Never seen that site before.... the domain I've been after for years (which I had, before I stupidly let it lapse) is on there, but they won't let me register with my yahoo email address (my ONLY email address!)

    Bloody hell. Eventually managed to register (using a different free email account). Now they want me to 'certify' my account by downloading a pdf, signing it and sending it to them. They don't half make you jump through hoops. I don't think I'll bother!

    I jut thought it may be worth something in time.

    Most people have heard of the ftse500 I would have thought, so if i was to build a webpage around it who knows.

    I see that ftse100.com has been sold to someone.

    Also the ftse250.com is being used.

    I am not really bothered weather it is lots of money or not.

    Just be nice to find a site where I could get a rough idea of values.

    I own quite a few domains and will just sit on them for the future.

    For what they cost they are peanuts so if they never sell you have not lost anything.

    I will sit tight on ftse500.com though as I have a good feeling about it even it is in a few years time.

    I was a member before all this. I think they try to really validate who you are to stop time wasters and conners. You can then be sure about a Sedo member bidding/paying.

    Buying domain names is mostly a waste of time unless you get something really really good that is also short.

    The cost of the domain name is only what people will pay for it and in all honesty the domains you have (other than FTSE500) is worthless.

    FTSE might make you a bit of money, but you'd be just as good as playing the lottery because you are just gambling on the chance someone will really want that domain and pay you decent money for it, and that's pretty rare. To be honest I do not see a big business being created just around one part of the stock exchange, the best you'll get is a thin affiliate site from an internet marketer, and they will not pay much for it at all.

    All the good domains are mostly gone and there are highly professional and efficient buyers picking up the good domains as they expire using smart technology and systems to get the good domains when their current owner lets them expire.

    Try DNS Forum if you want to sell domains.

    Apart from all that time you spend looking for unregistered domains and the cost of those domains each year, which can soon add up when you decide to sit on a few.

    I agree with you their.

    Any domain can be worth a fortune with the right site built on it.

    It's also about be lucky enough to own a domain someone really needs, which is rare but it does happen.

    Is the domain parking any good and which company wopuld you use for this.

    I must get some of my domains in use rather than just siting there doing nothing.

    Anyone wishing to know more about domains I would really recommend signing up to AcornDomains.co.uk don't go on rushing in to postloads of questions but look at the pass years threads.

    Their is so much to gain from it.

    Also domainprices.co.uk just to show that not all domains need to be top notch generics to gain cash from. But a good site on the does help.

    I sold 3 domains with mini sites on them recently for £755 The reason it was that amount is they were well indexed well in Google and came up in results for top searches and were making money from Adsense.

    I think it takes gut feeling. As long as the domain is real words and has some meaning then you can normally flip it for a profit. I sell several regfee domains a week for between $20-$150 and thats to resellers. Not a great amount and takes alot of searching to find one but still fun.

    I could give you access to a great free resource to find domains for flipping but until i'm a full member, i can't put the url in my sig or post it ;)

    With a good design and a fan base (people who regularly come back) with a large amount of hits and with other domains pointing to your site increases the value of the actual domain name.

    If you want a good design to get your clients interested and more inclined to visit again and again I can help - my portfolio of work is on boxedmango,co,uk
