How effective are on page advertisements?

Hi guys im very interested in getting my web business started which will probably use some CPC advertisement.

How effective is this form of advertisement and can you really get a 'decent' amount of pay per month? By decent I mean to pay for at least the web hosting cost per year.

Nothing like setting your sights high is there.

Sorry, i'm in a sarcastic mood. In reality though, whats the point in just trying to cover hosting costs. You could do that with a couple of hours work a year.

In answer to your question though, yes I cant see why you couldn't get it paying for itself.

Hehe, yeah true but if it can fund itself I think its a good starting point, afterall the purpose of a business is to at least negate expenditure

I'll be having a look at different CPC companies now and hopefully one to fit in my shopping website.

Remember that the most valuable thing you have is your time. Yeh, you can make a few hundred quid a year and not be out of pocket, but if you find you are doing it for less than, at the very least 20k a year, whats the point in spending much time on it.

Your time is much more valuable than you are accounting for.

Obviously, if your time is an investment it may pay off. I wouldn't spend a lot of time on it, without a good indication it will succeed though.

You can make good money from Google adsense, but its kind of a lazy solution. Its great if your site is new, as it needs no work on your part once its on the site and optimised (position and 'blending') and will show you who is advertising what based on your content. However, once your trafic and targeting increases, you'll want to look into direct advertising for a far better income
