how does this work?

As unfair as it sounds to those poisoned, it does say in the article that he got the insurance claim due to business interruption.

well there we go..then surely you can now claim 'Business Interruption' against anything that may happen in your work space e.g. customer falls down stairs and claims, you claim back a few weeks later for 'Business Interruption'

it's madness

Yes, I agree, it's crazy. But maybe it's the insurance company who is more to be blamed for providing compensation in these sort of cases. The guy just covered his back really well.

How about when you trip up the pavement, get injured and sue the council? Shouldn't you be looking where you walk first? How about not being allowed to remove snow in front of your house in case someone slips and sues you or the council? These are all crazy cases as well. Those who should be getting compensation (the diners) or should be doing what is right are being trampled upon.

agree.
He probably paid a very hefty premium to cover all eventualities.

They have offered free dinner to all those diners that were affected,

They have also it seems given details of the Insurance Company to claim themselves.

Can't see the problem either.

Apart from business interruption.. his business has probably suffered some loss of reputation too... For a Numero Uno restaurant.. that hurts....
His suppliers may also have taken a beating too.

Lots of ramifications... Don't think money for his Company is a balm... but it helps:)
