How do you deal with duty/tax shipping abroad?

Hi all,

On our site, in the terms we state that the customer is responsible for any duties/taxes which are due for their country of shipping.

In practical terms however, what happens if the customer refuses to pay these duties/taxes and then applies for a chargeback or similar?

We'd almost like to offer a duty/taxes paid service which is calculated at the checkout, but haven't really seen anyone else doing it.

Any tips/comments/advice on this?

Thanks!

Hiya,

If the customer is prepared to prepay taxes to you so you can pay then I'm sure they'd be happy to pay it anyway.

I'd advise you just make sure you make it clear on every product that they may be charged tax/import duty, then if they don't pay it then it would be their own problem?

If anyone knows anymore about it please let us know :)

Thanks

Just found a company "www.dutycalculator.com"

Looks like they have an add-on for Magento which should do the trick. Hope this has helped someone else out! We'll look at it in a few months once the current phase of the site is finished.
