How do I dissolve a dormant limited company?

Hi, I have a limited company which has been dormant since September 30th 2012, and now the last years accounts (ending 30th September also) have been filed. There are no debts or outstanding issues with the company.

What is the process to formally dissolve the company so it no longer exists as a legal entity? Is it a simple process?

You don't need to file any accounts if you are applying for strike off. It would be advisable to write to HMRC informing them that the company never traded, otherwise they may object to the strike off thinking that there may be outstanding tax due.
