for a lay man it is a mental illness.
for the doctors it is a physical illness( if you consider the brain as a part of your body) like alzheimer's disease.
dementia is a result of regression of brain fucnction due to aging process.
depression , anxiety neurosis , bipolar disorders and personality disorders however are mental illnesses.

but where is the answer of my question???

Righto, thanks for explaining that - I did think dementia could happen to anyone though regardless of age or are you saying if it happens earlier in life it could be due to rapid regression but still part of the aging process?

Anyway, I don't think anyone was saying that dementia was any worse than loneliness, or did I miss something?

some one once said that relationship with your children is quite different from relation with your parents.love for children is a natural phenomenon while love for parents are not.
my question was just simple," what happen if Godforbid your own child would suffer from serious physical or mental illness? what shall you do?
would you handover your child to the team of professionals and forget?
if not then why is there is different kind of attitude towards your elderly parents?
doesn't it sound like a throwing a garbage for proper disposal?(sorry for beinf rude)
what i want to ask that is it necessary to build a society or economy based on productivity and usefulness of a human being?
i feel that elderly problem in the western socities is just a part of the problem there are issues europian socities need to be discussed.
am i right?
