hourly rate London area for a full IT support

Hi all,
I'm an IT engineer and since few months I'm an IT consultant, former 20-years IT employee (pc, servers, security, architecture, development etc...).
I currently have a contract as IT consultant for a firm in London, full time, as I was a real employee.
Annual contract and salary. Banking area.
Now I got requests from other firms in London, banking area, to support them on demand, on a hourly base, but I don't know how much I can ask as hourly rate.
Their requests involve all the IT aspects within a firm: architecture, networking, security, software, hardware, little develpments for internal use...
I can support them remotely or onsite.

Hi Michele

I have a friend that works in London doing similar to what you are doing and he charges about £100-£150 per day a Full day would be over £1,000 I work with a company in Yorkshire and they charge £750 per day

How many hours a week to do want to work?

Just do that sum to get a rate.

Contact a agency and apply for work, they will tell you what they will pay you, so charge a bit more than that

just a couple of questions to ilyas:

1. the charge you mean are vat included?
2. the charge your company apply (750) for a full day, is exactly "hourly rate * 8" or they apply a discount respect to the hourly rate?

1. The quoted rate will be net of VAT if you are dealing with businesses.

2. You can apply a discount to the hourly rate if you are quoting a daily or weekly rate. This reflects the fact you know you are guaranteed to be working those hours.

this is my status:

I will work in financial area, banking and brokerage

honestly I was thinking to an hourly rate of 80£ (for working days, in case of banking holidays or weekend I would apply 25% increasing) VAT excluded; applying 30% discount in case of full day

what do you think?

Treat VAT separately, companies normally just use the rate plus vat not inclusive

Will your hourly rate be for when you are on-call or will they only pay you when they demand your services? This could have a significant impact on how much you receive.

Will you be doing this alongside your full time role or will this be your only income?

I know someone who does this internal for a client of ours, his charge is around 40GBP per hour.. but that all depends on what need's doing. He walks out with around 4-5000GBP monthly from that specific client.

What type of thing's do they require you to do anyway?
