So I have a small restaurant, which I have recently added a Takeaway service. The takeaway service has been very popular and seems to be a great benefit to the business. Now I plan to add a delivery service too as many customers have been requesting it.

I have tried to do some research into the type of car insurance I would need. Hire and Reward insurance does come up and I'm not sure if this is what I would need.

Also, I would like to be able to add and remove cover drivers as needed, as I am not sure of the demand. Is there a way I could cover car insurance for my staff if they were to need to help with the deliveries for a few weeks or so.

I think that I saw a job ad for dominos pizza driver and it said that insurance would be provided as long as you have a standard car insurance cover. Can I provide something similar to this?

Any insurance company recommendations appreciated. thanks

Best to discuss with a commercial insurance broker. Dominoes will hold big sway with insurers due to volume of drivers. Your best bet might be to get a small van and try for any driver over 21 cover.

It may be possible, but will most likely be expensive. I'm not a risk analyst but I see young lads rushing round at night incentivised by a price per delivery as high risk. You could tell the broker that the van is for collecting supplies from wholesalers as well as deliveries.

Is that legal?
I'm fairly sure I’ve seen age restrictions on driver job adverts, certainly 21+ if not 25+.

Although, the easy way round it is to not advertise the job as over 25’s only but that you must bring their drivers license to the interview as proof they have one. Check their DOB and If they’re under 25, send them a ‘sorry, but you weren’t successful this time’ email.
