I use Vidahost. I had been with a couple of other hosts but vidahost came highly recommended from others on this forum. So when my renewal came up I switched to them. Haven't looked back since: good prices and very good support - I've always received a swift (within about 10 mins) answer to any question I've asked: some of those questions have been very simple, some complicated, but they've always been happy to help and sorted me out.
There are other good hosts, but I'm happy to recommend Vidahost as a satisfied customer.

I don't have much experience with shared providers, it's been quite some time since we were with one. However for managed dedicated hosting and cloud hosting I would highly recommend Rackspace (UK division).
They are costly but you get what you pay for. We have achieved 100% uptime since moving to Rackspace and their team are the best of any company in any sector I have ever dealt with.
In fact I am not sure how they managed to get such a fantastic team together in one place.
Simply perfect.

123-Reg now offer various hosting packages. I have a couple of domains with them although their hosting offers never appealed to me. Personal choice I guess

We've recently moved both our ecommerce sites to a VPS with http://www.nublue.co.uk who are on the forum and were very very helpful at moving the sites over and reply to support questions quickly, even at weekends. I would also recommend http://www.posilan.com/ who we use for a blog - they seem to have 24 hour online support which is handy.

The simple concept of hosted services, already known and widely used for enterprise environments for quite some time, represents the perfect solution for a great number of small and medium sized companies that require a safe and reasonably priced platform. Applying the same concept at a higher level could result in Hosting and Service Providers leasing or renting virtual real-estate for the services they provide in order to lower their initial investments or subsequent upgrade costs.

For the love of God avoid Streamline.net. I went with them a few years ago when I first started learning about websites and stuff. The more I learnt, the quicker I realised that they were absolutely useless. Before I moved I had an issue with my e-mails being blacklisted. It took them 2 weeks to reply to the original ticket I submitted.
I then moved to Blacknight Solutions. I can't recommend them highly enough. Any issue I've had with them (relatively minor ones to be fair) they've replied to the ticket within half an hour. Always polite, always there to give advice. Any client sites we host, we host through them.
For VPS hosting though, I've been recommended 6sync by quite a few people, and linode. But 6sync are cheaper.

In short: Brilliant.
Why:
We use PAC Web Hosting pacwebhosting.co.uk as their costs are low, what you get for your money is amazing and their service and support is absolutely brilliant. They offer both shared hosting (pacwebhosting.co.uk) and Cloud VPS hosting (vpshosting.uk.com) and in both cases you get a lot of server for your money.
Their shared servers are not overloaded and their Cloud VPSs are high on resurces so you can be sure whichever you choose your sites will be quick to load.
Server setups are up-to-date and comprehensive so you won't have any issues installing or running popular ecommerce or CMS apps like Zen Cart and Joomla and there are many auto-installers offered as standard.
Control panels are also excellent, cPanel on the shared and either cPanel or PLESK on their VPSs so you won't have any issues with limitations imposed by proprietary control panels. They also offer the best level of control of your domain names and costs I have seen from any registrar we have used.
