I have 3 domain names .com & .co.uk with 123reg now i am looking to bring them all over to the same hosting provider 2 will stay dormant for now with me wanting to have just professional emails for them so i can read messages 1 will be used as a website am also wanting to buy one other domain name .com and .co.uk and turn it into a blog through wordpress so a hoster with an easy set up with wordpress would be good. I wanted to ask

1.Is there a charge involved when transferring domains over even if you are taking a hosting package out

2.If you have just renewed your domains with the provider you are currently with say for example 2 years if then you transfer to another provider does that carry over or do you have to pay out again

3.What happens if a domain name is about to run out when switching providers will they automatically let you know to renew it

I was looking at the medium package on this site https://www.vidahost.com/web-hosting/overview i cannot find any negative reviews about this company so would like peoples opinions

Thanks for any help

1) Yes, most companies will ask you to buy another year renewal of the domain, for switching to them.
2) Nope you keep your previous renewal time but see #1 above.
3) Your current provider will send you an email to renew, and your registrar (such as nominet for .co.uk) will also email you when it's going to expire. Your new provider probably won't.

I and a lot of users here use Vidahost, their service is excellent with UK based support staff available 24/7 and a local UK number not expensive 0845 numbers.

Dom and seb are both members here although they don't get to post here as much as they used too.

Nothing to stop you staying with 123-reg as domain registrar, but hosting your sites elsewhere. Many do that as it means they retain complete control, and can switch hosts at any time.

1. Charge will apply to .com domain (aprox £4-6) , there is not transfer charge for .co.uk domains
2. After you transfer a domain to another provider all renew date willbe transferred as well
3. System send you a reminder email, but you have to be sure that will not go to spam folder at you mailbox (that happening very often)

hoster with an easy set up with wordpress

Look for hosting with Installatron, that allow you to install any popular scripts (ex WP, Joomla) in 30 sek, very easy.

You can buy a domain and webserver in two different providers, after you have a domain you get access to control panel where you just add DNS addresses to your server, you get it in welcome email from you server provider.

That all give you chance to buy cheap domain and server, you also can move website or domain to another provider any time.

As I host, i always recommend my customers keep their domains and hosting separate.

That way if your host is crap, you can switch without having to worry about wrestling your domain away from your hosting provider.

Let me know if i can be of assistance.

1.Is there a charge involved when transferring domains over even if you are taking a hosting package out

    >>> If the hosting provider is renewing your domain then the charge should be considered as your domain will be renewed for another year or two with them.

2.If you have just renewed your domains with the provider you are currently with say for example 2 years if then you transfer to another provider does that carry over or do you have to pay out again

    >> Yes they the time period will be carried over with your new provider for domain registration.

3.What happens if a domain name is about to run out when switching providers will they automatically let you know to renew it

Yes they will remind you. but its always good practice to maintain your domain registrant email address as your personal email ID to get all the information about your domain status.

regarding looking hosting provider you should first make sure about your website requirements and accordingly you can make a list of providers to make it easy to select one.

    Steve.

So true, but saying that I do prefer to use hosts using WHMCS (the software we use) and have both hosting account and domains with them as you can manage everything in one place, even support tickets can be checked from the same account which makes it much easier to keep track of everything.
Both have pros and cons I suppose.

I keep my domains and hosting separate, usually registering domains with GoDaddy (yes, I know they're terrible) or Namecheap. I then host my sites with Webhostingbuzz as their plan worked out best for what I needed, and I haven't had any problems with them.

I would say do your research before choosing a hosting provider to make sure they offer what you need. Otherwise you'll end up switching plans/providers etc. and end up in a bit of a mess..!

I'm a big fan of Tsohost and they have everything you asked for in your OP.

They have one click installs for Wordpress and numerous other web apps. I dont think they are as cheap as Vidahost, but I do personally recommend Tsohost (Ive never used Vidahost before personally, so couldnt comment either way).

I also have a discount code that gives you 10% off any hosting package - jamesosix
