Hosting Needed

Right I need a small host hosting account.

Bandwidth - not much at all
Diskspace - 200KB should be more than ample
OS - Linux (any flavour)
Scheduled Tasks
PHP CLI
Ability to overide php.ini max_execution_time

What this is for is for a script that checks the status of all our hosting accounts and rather than maintain 3 different scripts on (different servers) cross-firing at all our servers, easier to put it in one place.

So I'm going to need the ability to run cron jobs, most mark this up a scheduled tasks. I will also need the ability to use ini_set in my script or put php config's in my htaccess as to stop the script timing out when its pinging the domains.

It wont use hardly any resources to ping about for a couple of minutes but can be run at a non default "nice" value if an issue.

Won't need a domain name as will be using php CLI only so wont need a web interface.

I know many shared hosting packages can provide this (actually more than I need) but cant be bothered to look!

Anyone here able to provide?

Hi, yes, i am able to provide this, and am running an offer of 1st month free to all UKBF members ( use UKBF1 as coupon code in sgnup) so you can try out our services.

All our plans are covered on this offer - Securinet .co.uk is my website

Thanks, Mike

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to say, prices start from £1.95 per month as shown on the site with no overselling on any of our packages offered.

If you are looking for something to monitor your websites and services, I'd recommend a dedicated monitoring service such as Pingdom who can provide SMS alerts along with a few other things. We use them along with SiteUptime to monitor all our servers and services. I'd recommend Pingdom over SiteUptime though.

bernielady, I can't signup the option Self-Management (no cost) is blanked out so cant contimue

Carl my solution is 2 fold. Firstly want to monitor servers. We have had a customer phoning up where their site has been down - it would be nice to know before them. The problem was routing in the datacentre so out fo our control.

Some of our clients for provoke manage their own domain names and we have had a few occasions where their IT dept have played with their DNS and they have had a right go their site is down - where its not some prat their end unlinked the domain - so also want to ping by host not just by server IP. Do these services do this?

Yes you can ping by host, ip and any port you want.

Pingdom will alert you before your client knows of a problem. It "sweeps" all your services/servers every 1 minute. If something is down it will send you an SMS text message and also an email.

The basic service is only $9.95 per month and extra monitors $0.50 - 20 SMS credits included free of charge.

I'd recommend it over a custom built script as it checks from several locations and in my opinion much more reliable.

I don't usually recommend much over a custom-built script, but Pingdom are good!

Well my script just doesnt ping the port it actually tries to read the first few characters served. Port 80 for example may be open but it doesnt tell me if apache is misbehaving (highly unlikely I know!) It appears pingdom does the same.

Carl pingdom is quite scary. My dedicated bytemark server and one of our reseller accounts is no problem but the other reseller account I wish I never put its details in. My mobile goes ding dong ever few hours. It seems that its not reachable random minutes of the day :(
