Hosting multiple websites

I've got a few websites and am about to need a few more.

At present I have individual hosting accounts with netweaver, which isn't cheap.

Is there a more economical way to host several websites on the same server and if so, who would you recommend. Any links would be appreciated.

Hi

Depending on how many domains you need to host you may be best either moving to a hosting account that supports multiple domains or a reseller account.

Most hosts will offer this a a standard service, including us ;)

I would get a reseller package from a web host which will allow you to add more websites as you wish, you will have a set # of accounts you can have but you should be able to upgrade later.

I pay £29 a year to host 6 sites with Vidahost, and when I need more I can just ask to be upgraded to the next level.

There are a few options open to you, possably a reseller account would be the best option.

I use Vidahost, excellent support staff if you ever require to submit a ticket. Always replied within 15 minutes and ticket usually closed at the same time :D

Forum is a great place for information, a few members are designers and always offering some really good tips.

If you don't see anything on the main site you can always call and discuss your requirements, I am sure they do custom packages if required.

Thanks...

What are the difference between shared hosting >>> http://www.vidahost.com/uk-shared-hosting and resellers >>> http://www.vidahost.com/uk-reseller-hosting

Theres a big price difference.

The main difference is that resellers will be on a different server to the shared hosting, the disk space and bandwidth is larger and the amount of sites is much larger.

Reseller accounts also come with WHM, a script which does all the order processing to sell the space to clients (Vidahost use WHM for their order processing). As you will be using the site for yourself then I don't think you will need a reseller account.

I have a 10% off code for Vidahost in my signature (I get a few ££ for the referral).

There are a couple of small differences.

The main one is that a reseller account generally allows you to setup "sub-accounts", so you can give a customer login details just for their domains. A bit like you have now.
This will probably not be a big deal to you if all the domains are for you.

The other difference just tends to be the limits they tend to impose, resellers tend to be highers. But it is perfectly possible to have a shared hosting package that is 100 time bigger than a reseller package.

To point a domain to new hosting is about a 5 minute job (exc. propogation).

And if you have just a basic HTML site it pretty quick too. It can take a bit longer if you have a complicated site and need to worry about transactions.

Got the login details for FTP and currently uploading one of the sites as we speak.

Do I get different FTP details for my second website?

You need to set up each individual account, login to the ftp and find the "addon domains" option.

Enter the domain as "domain.co.uk" (without the http://www.)
Set the login details.
Once done, find the ftp option and you can set up the ftp for that domain.

What are the difference between shared hosting
and resellers
Think of a reseller account as primarily having multiple shared hosting accounts, but unlike just buying 1 plan per site and having the hosts limits applied to each, you get to decide the allocations of disk/emails/transfer/features to each of the shared-hosting accounts yourself.
