Hi All,

So, like a bunch of Nutters that we are, surely some of you have some interesting hobbies and likes?

Sorry if this has been done recently, I've been away for a while and now it's time to get back to business :)

To start the ball rolling:

I am into the whole Nitro R/C Scene. Expecially 1/8th Scale Trucks. Nice to get away from the stress and strain of the day to day running of the business, to go out at the weekend with a few friends and tinker and tune these little beauties.

I have however just set myself a new challenge. I'm learning how to fly a proper R/C Helicopter (Not one of these counter rotating Argos jobbies) the real deal.

It's prooving....impossible to say the least :D but good fun and it provides a few hours of therapy if nothing else.

Anybody else got a proper hobby that drains their resources and time at the weekends?

All the best

Jamie

I Love Spreadsheets

I'm in to killing (in first person shooters on the PC before you call the police). I have been a big video gamer since the late 70's.

Also dabbling with some electronics with an Arduino board - Its a little circuit board you can program to operate lights, machines, speakers or anything else electronic. It can also be used in data gathering applications. Would be good if I could integrate it with the business but thats a future project.

I really enjoy cars, driving, talking about, reading about.

I also really enjoy live entertainment. The New Vic in Newcastle still performs theatre in the round, live comedy at The Glee Club in Birmingham is always brilliant and I saw my first ballet for many years last weekend.

Playing Yoville, Cityville and Farmville on Facebook.

That's how I spend my evenings, and my weekends if I'm not working.

It's sad and pathetic, but I like it, so NER.

I like to read, too. I like a good archaeological thriller. Exciting Indiana Jones-style stories, where you get all the thrill of the chase but learn something interesting about history at the same time.

And I love to watch DVDs of old comedy series, particularly Reggie Perrin (only when Mr Doo isn't around though - he objects :D) And old musicals and B&W films, things like Shirley Temple, Julie Garland, Fred & Ginger, etc.

I don't do anything exciting, really. I just enjoy relaxing :)

My Cityville is coming along nicely....accept my crops died:|
Writing, old movies, like the ballet but it never comes to Cumbria that often, bit to cold for Tutus this far north;)
Fred and Ginger my favs.
Love anything to do with dance.
Watching wildlife (especially on here):D got a pair of Buzzards on the doorstep.
Art work
Midsomer murders
Bonnet dramas, catching up on all those I missed when he who did not like them, lived here - and its heaven.
Time team; would love to do that dig up old bones:D
Lots of little things that do not amount to much but are interesting and fun to do.
Not forgetting the dogs and cats.

You need to ask your friends to visit and revive them :) My city is so bloody big, I never have enough energy to collect all the rent and crops and business earnings etc. Have to stagger it so one day I collect loads of crops and stock up my shops, the next day I collect all the business earnings and plant more crops. It's getting to be hard work, TBH :D

I don't mind a spot of ballet :)

Good call! I love wildlife watching too. Well, from my office chair, looking out at the garden - enjoy watching the birds and insects, 'tis nice :) Keep a wildlife book on the shelf behind me, so I can look up anything I don't recognise :) Lots of chaffinches and bullfinches at the moment - lovely!

Time team; would love to do that dig up old bones

Ooh yeah, Time Team rules!

Not forgetting the dogs and cats.

Same here - I'm animal crackers :D 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 goldfish and 2 pleckos. Found a woodlouse living in the fishtank *underwater* last week, strolling along quite happily on a rock! No idea how long it'd been there but we fished it out and took it outside. Woodlice rock. They're, like, *dinosaurs* :D

Woodlice are weird.

I am having my bedroom re-plastered so its down to the old stuff at the mo.
The woodlice come out of the cracks and crevices at night and stomp up and down. I am sure there is Mum, Dad, and several off spring - they remind me of little armadillos, I have named two of them Fred and Ginger, as they seem very nippy on the old pins.

I was sitting drinking a cuppa a few weeks ago, when I thought I saw a mouse scurry across the kitchen floor - but how could that be, with 11 cats.
Then the other evening as I was handing out the doggie biscuits I saw some of the broken crumbs being dragged under the dresser in the lounge.
Sure as hell I had mice, field mice - with massive brown eyes, the cats had brought them in ( b****y idiots)! tried getting them to take then back out - no way!

I managed to catch some in those humane traps, sadly I had to resort to poison, as mice piddle over everything.

My fish Errol Fin died last year.:(

Poet. Well, I was until nightmare of a small biz took over. Published months before opening first shop. Ah the good old days of time to think and write.
Full-time freelance copywriter as well.

Love poetry, having a whirl myself; great way to express yourself.
Just don't expect friends to know where the heck you are coming from:D

Woodlice are great. They're so ancient looking. Like little dinosaurs :D Our house is pretty damp so we always have loads of them. I'm happy enough to share with them - it's only wasps I really hate.

11 cats! That's my idea of heaven! Mr Doo won't let me have more than 3 :( Llinos Lwyd Skippety Lamb Monkey Face Williams is queen of the house and won't stand any nonsense. The ninjas are terrible twins - 3 year old brothers, not allowed out because they're too "hello clouds! hello trees" - they'd be squished under a car within minutes of setting foot outside. They are Noodles (noo-noo, noo-y) and Sushi Bear. They are the most placid cats I've ever met. I've never once seen either of them angry. They never wag or twitch their tails. They are just innocent, naiive, gullible, trusting little souls, very mischievous and very affectionate (but then, I have babied them since the day they arrived!) The dog is Huwci, or Huwci Doo, or Stinky Poo Shoe, or Diggy Dongy, or Pup-a-doodle-doo, depending on what mood I'm in. He's 17 months old and very excitable and ridiculously affectionate. Clever little sod and my best bud :)

Field mice are gorgeous eh? Lllinos has brought live shrews in loads of times. Sometimes we manage to catch them and take them outside, but sometimes they hide and then die, and make the room stink :( That's not fun :(

I'm lucky that we bloke actually reads and understands my writing, even though English is not his first, or even second language.

There's a good forum for emerging writers online, if you're interested.

It may sound like a cliche, but I really am a big fan of long walks in the countryside. Part of that probably comes from living in a city, but a one that is only minutes away from proper countryside.
I used to row but don't find the time to commit to it at the moment, which is a shame as I'd love to get back out on the water properly.
Other than that, I'm an oboist which is a nice way to relax. I don't get anywhere near as worked up spending an afternoon getting through a really tricky piece as I do in some of my meetings at work (and some of them are only half an hour long!).
I'm also a big fan of eating out. My better half and I went to Jamie's Italian last week and it comes highly recommended to any of you. Lovely atmosphere and service, cracking food and not particularly dear, actually.

If I find myself with free time I usually like to spend it watching the food network. It has actually become an obsession. I don't know if many would call that a hobby, but for the amount of time I spend watching that channel, it has to be more than just an interest.

An excellent book is The Mists of Avalon By Marion Zimmer Bradley ... it's faction based on the story of King Arthur but told through the eyes of his women :)

When Morgana (Morgaine Le Fait or Morgain of the Faeries) has a breakdown it's told as though she goes to live in the land of Faerie ;) x

An often forgotten source of quality fantasy is Lord Dunsany and L Sprague de Camp (who's 'Unbeheaded King' trilogy is worth a read)
Also the fantasy writings of HP Lovecraft (when he's not being all New Englend gothic horror)

All very good authors.
