HMRC RTI tech errors show PAYE debt

For information, we have found RTI to show incorrect information and now we are being chased for a debt. First raised in November 2014 and accepted as an error by HMRC I would be interested to know if others have encountered similar problems. We pay what our old-style P11 shows we have to pay and make sure this is the same as the RTI 'Calculate Amount Due' for each period (presumably based on the wages, taxes and NI recorded each time we pay an employee!). However the (relatively-new) 'Dashboard' shows different amounts due that do not reconcile with other RTI paye information!

Is this a well-known issue?

Haven't had any problems with the payrolls run in my practice.

Presumably its an issue with the HMRC software?

Yup, HMRC are in a pickle i'm afraid. They've got debts showing on the dashboards that shouldn't be there. I'm no IT geek but apparently they can 'move' the debt elsewhere in order to stop the letters coming out to you but actually making the debt disappear from view is a completely diferent thing.

I'd put it in writing and ask for a written response, they're usually fairly good at that (he says)

If you are now being chased for a debt which isnt due I'd send a letter of complaint to HMRC (mark it very clearly as a letter of complaint) informing them you want them to stop chasing the 'debt' immediately.
