Help...

I'm trying to complete my CT600 form and am stuck on the 'Accounting Policies' section.

I started the company through an agent, as the company hasn't started trading cancelled the agent. I have had a request from HMRC for a Tax Return.
I have opted to file the accounts as a dormant company as I wasn't aware that this hadn't already been done by the agent.

The only entry on the sheet and that filed with CH is 1000 shares at £1 each with two directors each with 1 share at £1 which have not been paid for.

Everything appears to be OK until I get to the point where I have to make notes as to the Accounting policies and have no idea what to enter. By default 'Accounting Policies' is the only box checked.. I then have a number of boxes for notes:
Basis of measurement and preparation of accounts
Turnover Policy
Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy
etc
None are marked as required, however if I try to proceed I get an error 'Please enter at least one note on this page' the box highlighted is 'Other accounting policies'

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Gavin

I have already filed dormant company returns with Co House, however I have had a request to do a Company Tax Return from HMRC which is what I'm trying to do with the CT600 form. I have indicated that the company is dormant on the form however there are still some areas I have to fill (see above).

When completed I will return the relevant form to advise HMRC that the company is dormant.

Hi Elaine,

thanks for your reply.

One last question, I have the form CT41G (dormant company) which I have downloaded. I not sure if you or any of the other members are familiar with it, but the original would have been sent to our agent to fill in and send back.. it asks for the address of the original form, I assume that is the company address? next question is, we have since left the agent, cant afford them as we're not trading so have a new address, do I put the new company address in there?

Also one more thing, apart from the share value the only other expenditure was setting the company up.. agent fees and a late filing penalty.. do I need to declare these on accounts or is the CT41G (dormant) form enough?

Thanks
Gavin

Yes of course I am familar with the CT 41 G! LOL

If you put the agent fee in the accounts then it cannot be dormant.

I quote from my blog that I referenced already:

A company is dormant if it has had no 'significant accounting transactions' during the accounting period. A significant accounting transaction is one which the company should enter in its accounting records.
When determining whether a company is dormant you can disregard the following transactions:
•payment for shares taken by subscribers to the memorandum of association;
•fees paid to the Registrar of Companies for a change of company name, the re-registration of a company and filing annual returns; and
•payment of a civil penalty for late filing of accounts.

My advice don't put agent fee in accounts!

Write to HMRC as I say in my blog to tell them it is dormant as I assume you completed CT 41 G when the company was registered - that is what should have been done
