Hi all,

I have read on here that the HMRC offer free courses. Does anybody know how I can find out about these? I live in the Manchester area.
I've done a quick google search but nothing comes up.

Thanks in advance!

HI

If you do go to one of these courses run by HM Customs (maybe different in your area) but when I went to a Limited Company course the person running it was telling everyone what HM Customs prefer rather than what can really happen for example he said that it was wrong for directors to pay dividends and that salaries should be paid because HM Customs losing out on taxes and that paying interim dividends was against the law even though I know companies who pay interim dividends with the advise of accountants. When I told the others in the course that interim dividends are fine to do the person running the course quickly shut me up and carried on talking about something else on the course.

I've been on most of the courses run by HMRC and my experience has been quite different (West Midlands area). One of the reasons I enjoy them so much is that the people who have run them show you that HMRC has a human side. Well, almost.......

I guess it's down to the person running the presentation.

I suggest if you can attend a few of them you do so. As it gives you a feel for what you can do yourself and where you may need further help.

I have attended a few of the courses in london just to see what goes on. They can be useful as an overview (circa 2 hours is not enough time to go into any detail) especially if you are coming to this for the first time. In addition, you get handouts to take away which are good reference material.
And finally, it is FREE !

I was advised today about the HMRC Courses, so I looked on here and pleased to see there is a thread for it. I have booked my place already and looking forward to learning more.....I hope other people out there who are starting out, use this as an opportunity to learn more too. :)
