Ive joined UKBF today and just wanted to say a quick hello and introduce myself. I'm Jenny House and I'm setting up my own business. I've joined UKBF as I'm already finding it a bit lonely - I'm only 6 weeks in! I'll no doubt be cropping up asking for advice or just seeking someone to chew the fat with.

I've spent the last 7 years running a small but growing software development firm based here in Essex. It was during my time there, that I became aware of just how disruptive GDPR could be for a lot of small businesses. Over time, I felt that I was in a unique position to really help other small business owners and directors deal with GDPR compliance issues.

So, I've finally taken the jump and set up Smarter Data Protection Ltd. The whole service will be geared around helping micro and small businesses find the right set of GDPR solutions and measures for their business.

I have recently completed GDPR Foundation and Practitioner training with IT Governance to make sure I'm as knowledgeable as a (non-legal) person can be. I'm currently waiting to receive my exams results which are taking forever! Wish me luck :)

Whilst I wait, I'm having my website built. The fully functional version will be live in January 2018 but I'm hoping to have a holding/informational site up by mid-November 2017.

Hopefully that's enough of an overview for now. I will be very appreciative of any help or advice offered to me by other members. One of the things I'm most keen to hear about is how GDPR is affecting you and your business. So if you've got a GDPR story you'd like to share with me I'd love to hear it. Feel free to PM me.

If I can be of help to other members around any matter not just GDPR, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks, Jenny

Hi @am:pm graphics
Not too badly, thank you for asking. I've hit a few hurdles and delays along the way but I'm getting there. Content remains slightly unfinished and I need to pop some photos on. But it's live if you want to take a look. I can't post a link because I'm a mere newb!
I've got some partner meetings lined up in the next 3 weeks which might yield something. Intend to start my blogging effort from mid-Feb.
I'm offering 1 hour free consultancy so hoping that will help generate some early leads to work on.
All the Sole Traders I'm talking too remain unaware of the new law which is slightly worrying! One has deferred to the ICO's small business helpline to sense check what I've told him but is still waiting for a response a fortnight later.

That sounds positive! Good luck with the meetings in a few weeks. Blogging can be a great way to attract visitors to your site. You could also tweet and use Facebook to spread the word and your knowledge, presuming you are not already doing this..? I hope things continue to blossom and thanks for the update, I'll go and see if I can find your site! :)
