Hi everyone,

Im new to this forum and i basically need some advice on my mendhi designs business...well not a proper business yet but hopfully soon

Mehendi is the application of henna is a temporary form of skin decoration..like a tatoo but temporary, its made from natural ingredient i.e crushed leaves from henna plants,

Me and a friend both 18 years of age have recently started doing henna designs for south east asian weddings and hen nights, we are advertised on some social networking sites, we started off for fun but now we are thinking about going full time if you get what am trying to say...

I basicly want to find out if we need any kind of insurance just incase someone has an allergic reaction (which i have never seen before)

also because we are both kinda young people think we are easy targets and try to cheat us out of our well earned money, would it be smart to have a contract for poeple to sign so they dont try and play the "im not happy with the henna design" card ??

thanks for your help everyone.

You can get a standard stall holders liability insurance policy for around £50 - £60 per year. This would also cover you if you decided to do craft fairs / music festivals / shows etc.

An online search will throw up plenty of providers or you could look at the market traders association - their membership comes with free liability insurance and other benefits as well.

thanks,

what about when it comes to people pulling a fast one ?

we do free trials so people can see what designs we have to offer, but recently we had one client who said she was happy with the designs on the trial but after we done the bridal mendhi design she said it didn't meet her expectations, so she paid us less than what we agreed on, the patterns where the same as on the trial day but I think she just didn't want to cough up the full amount.

any way to get around these sort of problems ???

To be honest, if they were happy with the trial and had no genuine reasons for complaint on the day then I would invoice them, follow it up with a reminder after a set time then file a claim through the small claims court.

While you can wave goodbye to any hope of future business with the client and their contacts, is this business you really want - a sucession of customers who know in advance you can be ripped off?
