Have you considered purchasing / finding free a pre designed template to use with the Zen Cart software?

I know templatemonster.com sell Zen Cart templates, and you can usually find packs of hundreds of free ones online.

This however will not help with functionality of course, although there are many fixes for missing aspects of functionality with the freely available modules for the system.

Depends on what you mean by something a bit "slicker". Are you just looking for something which is cosmetically appealing or do you want some sort of functinality which you can't get from Zencart?

Thanks for the reply.
I'm meaning something which looks slicker from an aesthetics point of view. I'm launching a clothing label so aesthetics are key to the design.
That's why I was thinking along the lines of either an HTML site built using Dreamweaver and bolting on something like ecart OR using Wordpress and bolting on a free cart of some sort as mentioned in the previous post.

The lazy side of me is leaning towards a Dreamwever HTML site (which I've already kind of started) with something like Roman cart bolted on but I really don't want the associated monthly fee so ideally an HTML site with a cart without any ongoing costs would be my first choice.

Has anyone got any experience or could recommend cartweaver, ecart4 or any other prebuilt cart plug-in for Dreamweaver?

Many thanks once again

Thanks for the info but I want something unique which doesn't look like a stereotypical template, something I can design but add the "add to cart" buttons etc with ease wherever I fancy on the page

Cheers

If I were you I would leave WP strictly alone for ecomm. It's OK for simple stuff but is not an ideal path to tread. "WP Shopping Cart" & "WP ecommerce" are the same product by Instinct, out of NZ. They call it WP ecommerce on thier site and all puffery, but when you install the plugin it's called WP Shopping Cart, which is sloppy.
Roman Cart is a very simple solution, but is only £60 a year, and provides quite a lot for the money, if ease of use is a consideration. Otherwise, if you are looking for something that is not stereotypical you will need either money or expertise. (The money buys expertise.)
