Hi Gavin.

There is indeed a way of finding keyword cost metrics. Google Planner.

However it is not always that accurate. We have some cleaning company clients and you would probably be looking, for a local campaign, at 40 pence for domestic and 60 pence commercial a click.

However your quality score will impact this significantly.

Happy to take a look if you would find that valuable.

Hi Gavin

Only my 2cents, others will offer theirs.

You're localised to Wolverhampton so it's clearly not profitable to move too far outside your 'patch' so to speak.

First thing I'd do if it were me would be to get an Adwords account. It doesn't cost unless you start running ads but look around this forum and others and you're bound to come across an Adwords ad. They offer a £75 voucher once you've got ads created, running and have spent at least £25, once you hit the £25 mark Google will add an additional £75 voucher into your account.

The keyword tool you want to look at is their 'Keyword Planner' it's under the 'Tools' button in the main menu at the top of your Adwords screen.

Click it, you'll understand what needs doing once you look at the screen but essentially, all you need to do is to sit there long enough for you to have got a grasp of what you need to do in terms of checking potential keywords. Make sure you check you're using your locality when you're searching for keywords, it's no good you typing in "window cleaners" - finding there's 1,600 searches a month in Google but realising there's only 40 of those 1,600 relating to Wolverhampton.

You offer 8 different cleaning services so spend time in that keyword tool and start to prioritise your keywords based on the level of search demand behind them. Once you've got that information, prioritise which pages are more important to you over other pages of your site and start to push those pages forward.

The problem you'll have with Adwords is that the cost of the ads may well return little gain for the expense and that's pretty much the same with SEO. Your potential visitor levels may be too low to warrant expense in either area.

Do your keyword research first and see how the cost of running ads stacks up. You'll get this information inside your Adwords account. If it's not looking too healthy (Google's suggesting a cost per click of £1.08 for 'window cleaners wolverhampton') then consider doing your own SEO on your site for your local keywords. It's really not difficult.

Hope that makes sense.

Pay a few quid and get a PPC person/company to help you at least over the first few hurdles.

A decent PPC consultant/agency will get the campaigns set up, track the conversions and you'll know that, on average, it costs you £50 to get a new client via PPC in Health Town, £75 in Bradmore, and £150 in Bushbury. You'll know that a disproportionate percentage of buyers are using iPads and be able to stop running ads for desktop and mobile phone users, thus bringing your cost to get new clients to £25, £37.50 and £75 respectively.

Being able to track, segment and focus on the profitable keywords, profitable customers and ramp up your ads during the time of day and day of week when people buy, focusing on devices they use when they buy is just one way in which that consultant or agency will be able turn you from breakeven into tidy profits from PPC.

Hi Gavin

TEMPLATES are complex for beginners with no SEO knowledge.

Your website TEMPLATE is complex, you were given all the information, but you didn't use them, your website will struggle without a few snippets of meta data, no alt tags working. You are going to need more content written correctly. I have never used Adwords and I'm sitting pretty in the credit crunch depression era, google is hoping your pockets are deep. I read on another site this chap in Scotland spent nearly £6k on Adwords before he realised they were a waste of time and money.
