Hi All,
Need a little advice on setting up an e-commerce website ...

I have a customer who wants to sell bespoke made to measure kitchen doors through his existing WP website.

He wants to set up some type of calculator similar to the one if you follow the 'online worktop quotation' link on this site:

http://www.granitesolutionsdirect.co.uk/

The idea being visitors can select the colour and style of doors required, the number of doors they want, enter the precise measurements for each of the doors, and then checkout using a shopping cart system.

All types of credit card payments need to be accepted (not Paypal) on checkout - there must be standard WP plugins to handle payments.

Anyone know the best way to get this integrated into an existing WP site? Appreciate your help and advice on this.

Thanks,
Tony

There is quite a long tread on WP ecomm on a Linkedin forum. It would appear that WP and sophisticated ecomm are not yet a marriage made in Heaven, although some apps are very good at some things.
I've yet to find an app/plugin that is good at all things, but haven't tried the ecomm themes yet.

Why is using WP more important than having well functioning ecomm? If he is selling off the site, surely the point is to maximize revenue? Other considerations that WP can help with can be added as secondary, no? (Said as a real WP fan..)

Thanks for the link Dawg - I'll have a read.

Think the idea of selling doors is fairly new - the initial remit was to have a well optimised site for his kitchen business which he has thanks to WP.

I guess the ecommerce bolt-on will be another revenue stream ...

Cheers,
Tony

You could look into the WP e-commerce plugin. There are lots of mixed reviews of the plugin a lot of people seem to prefer shopp.

Personally I'm going for WP e-commerce since its Open Source. I've just recently started an ecommerce site that hopefully can be a bit of a showcase for WP e-commerce. For a company that does corporate catering, not your usual e-commerce site so should showcase its flexibility.

I downloaded the development version of WP e-commerce 3.8 the other day and it looks good (uses custom posts). So hopefully that will be the longer term answer. If people get behind it and contribute like they have with WordPress then we could have a nice combination on our hands.
