Hi Guys,

I am just in the early stage of planning a new business.

The business is a digital marketing company, where we will market companies businesses online such as google & bing adds as well as SEO.

I've got a few name ideas but not any that really stick with me, I'm hoping you guys could help.

Many Thanks

It isn't going to be me alone working on marketing these businesses, I just wanted a few ideas, I already have my own I just don't want to make the final decision until I'm sure that there the best I can do and there isn't anything better.

As for out sourcing the work, I have worked in the industry for 3 years now and I think I'll be fine marketing any company.

I've read it twice and still don't understand it.

Name of company: xclaimer. It's as good as any other made up name.

Oh I disagree the company name really does make a difference in so many ways, areas to consider are;

  • Target market - Who are you selling to, how can you tailor your name/brand to appeal more to this type of customer
  • Memorable - Some names you just remember more, I know this even with my first name people tend to remember me more and it has helped me achieve more business over the years particularly when you have a lot of competition
  • Working in the same area some names have an SEO gain too right so this needs to be considered as well
Good luck with the new venture

I also disagree that the company name isn't important - it is very important as any business owner I believe wants to stay memorable for a client. There are thousands of digital marketing companies, and when I think about them, the most memorable names are coming to my mind: Strawberryfrog, Naked, Big Kitty Labs. Digital agency sells creativity, that's why it is better when the name is as strange as possible to be able to stand out of the crowd. You can check this list of memorable names, maybe it will inspire you: http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/40-strangest-agency-names-and-where-they-came-136533

And that's the whole point. The name doesn't matter. Agreed it needs to be memorable but the actual name isn't important. InvoiceBerry for example is about as random as it gets - I wouldn't associate it with invoicing software. This doesn't mean it's a bad name, it's just no different to anything else you could have chosen (I thought it was something to do with BlackBerry).

People get too hung up on things that only matter internally. Nobody else cares.

Well, if you agree that the name should be memorable, there is some kind of importance you give to the name :) but of course, as I wrote above, strange names that don't really have some logic usually are the names that stay in memory. But still, I would say that the name is important in a way if you don't want to be "one of those millions" - then you should give it importance thinking of something more than "Digital era" and so on, I mean, trying to escape "grey" names.

And about InvoiceBerry - please, don't make conclusions about the name based only on your opinion: for me it sounds weird that the name including the word "invoice" doesn't connect you to invoicing software or at least to anything connected with invoices ;)
