Help needed: I sell keyrings, what should I talk about to get people interested?

P

ProductCreators

So, my business is in the custom keyrings manufacturing. But I have a hard time reaching customers, or talking about anything that may excite them.

Should I venture off into talking about other technologies? Does anyone else have the same problem when talking about their niché product?

Cheers,

You can always go online on ebay to sell your products and experiment with this website. It costs you nothing but time. If i were you i would try different techiques every month to see how the effectiveness changes. Leaflets won't work in your case, BUT you must create (or hire someone to do this for you) a small electronic brochure/advertisement. As soon as you have it, go online and search all the resellers in your area/country and create a big email list. Then send a mass mail to every reseller. It's a rule of thumb that in 100 emails you send at least 2-3 will become interested in your keyrings and 1 will buy. In my honest opinion there is no product in this world which is necessary such as food/clothes, so you have to offer your product in a way the buyer thinks he needs it!

Know your market

I believe there are more than a million keyrings makers out there, and more than a billion guys who supply them with raw material in different quality, in different prices. If you are like some guys who just send the project to a manufacturer in China that's ok as well. Find what others sell and in which prices, then decide how far you can go, how much to charge. All these have serious and difficult vectors like freight cost, shipping cost, manufacturing cost, advertisement cost, your profit etc. Analyze as much as you can these vectors in your specific market and find how low you can go, maintaining the desired quality.

On the buyer/reseller hand you have to be accurate with their orders and capable of meeting their demands on quality and quantity. These 2 things will make you reliable from small to big clients of yours.

Out of interest, do you use Etsy at all? There's also a ton of other websites, that are similar, which focus on handmade products that are interesting. I think gift shops, as mentioned by someone else, are a really good idea. As with most businesses that focus on unique products, you need to be picking up the phone and arranging meetings with as many retailers as you can. From the tiny gift shop down the road, to Harrods if you can.

So you do 'reach' some customers then? Have you looked back on how you reached these customers and repeat the process?:)

Are you talking about the specfic keyring you wish to sell or an unrelated keyring in your convos with them?

Speaking to someone who is a collector of a specfic item and your keyring is a must have for them to add to their collection then it must be (if not price) something else you're saying that is preventing the sale

I think only you can answer this question because if you believe it will help with the sale - do so.

I say this because not being there whilst convo taking place is hard to give you a practical suggestion;)

When you say what can I talk about, as a content writer I automatically think we are talking blog posts or social media posts so here are my thoughts;

* Key ring world records - easy to find online, just talk about them, etc
* Weirdest key rings of the world
* Why use keyrings as giveaways
* The best businesses for keyrings as giveaways
* How to store your keyrings
* The average amount of keyrings per person
* Top 5 business fair give aways (including key rings).

These should get you started? Shout if you need more? - I hope I haven't misunderstood 'talk about'

Cheers,

People respond well to story telling. So, think how you can tell stories related to your products. E.g. a funny story about someone getting locked out of their house, or keys are used for e.g. a new car, so how about a story about someone picking up a new car they've worked hard for. Tell stories to get people's attention.

I think that is where your "problem" lies. You don't just sell key rings. If you have studied your market and your ideal customer then you should have an idea why they buy from you. Do you sell customised key rings? You need to find the emotional aspect of your product and explore the "benefits" and not the features. I am sure people are buying them for more than being just somewhere to hang their keys.

If you are not widely known as a manufacturer of key rings, inexpensive way to promote yourself and your products is to make a company's website. Put on your site, your products, create a blog, invest your time in content and seo. These are not complicated things but require some knowledge and patience. But in the long term it is a profitable investment. Each product can be your passion, if you put in that heart, you support it appropriate knowledge, you will definitely succeed.

Have you tried contacting Locksmiths or other Security Specialist Companies?

Locksmiths sell key rings as up-sales - Security Companies would use them as free gifts to clients etc - so they could potentially request a product being manufactured by you for themselves.

I know that the MLA (Master Locksmith Association) currently has a contract with another company for key-ring fobs - I believe last year there was something in the region of £10k in the pot for this, there was a fair bit of work involved as each MLA Locksmith (over 40 individual companies) had their own designs on one side of the key-ring and the MLA details on the opposite side, If your prices are within the same region then I'm sure you could get something out of it.
