I am founder of www.retiredbackpackers.com which is a successful website aimed at the mature traveller looking to find like minded travel companions.

It has over 6000 active members, and achieves about 300,000 hits per month. It generates money through advertising both Tour operators and hotels.

It is in its infancy but id love to get an idea of its value.

Please let me know if you can help.

Regards

Jonathan

Hi peacemeister45

It might be helpful to find out how much money (SALES) the website brings in on a monthly basis, and also how many hours are spent on it (TIME), and whether there are any other EXPENSES, so that we might be able to ascertain the PROFIT.

Excuse the caps, there are just so many people asking similar questions about the value of their business or website. It really is impossible to estimate unless more financial information is provided.

Welcome to my world!

This is always a difficult subject. I have a keen interest in this myself and I have several websites and domain names which I need to try and establish their value.

It's tricky. You guys are absolutely right. Profit figures will certainly help here however a domain name alone can be worth a small fortune.

Business.com went for $7.5M and is now just a search engine. I say 'just', I am sure it reaps good rewards but it doesn't actually sell a product itself.

I had a website which pretty much made nothing yet I the name was quite good and I eventually sold the name for a huge profit.

I NEED A DRAGON!

My latest project is a mobile phone recycling price comparison website. I noticed that whilst Mazuma, Envirofone and Co had great exposure in advertising their services, they didn't necessarily offer the best price for recycling a phone. My website interrogates all of the recycling sites and lists the best price for recycling.

For example. The ye old faithful Nokia 6300 business phone. Mazuma will only give you £10 yet you can get £35.50 for it!

The site needs regular updates which I sadly cannot dedicate time to but the prices are always up to date as it's from a direct 'live' feed.

Anyway, if you know of anyone who may be interested then please let me know. All sensible offers considered.

The domain name itself is quite good. Revenue is then made from the mobile recycler that visitors end up using and commission is around £3.00 for a new user directed to say Mazuma and if they use Mazuma again in the future then it's an additional £1.50 per 'sale' thereafter.

Can also easily integrate Google AdSense.

Many thanks

Steve
