hi all. i work in the construction game. i have four east european bricklayers who want work. what would be the best way to employ them?. I . E. Throu my own ltd our by way of self employment, i have even thought of my own recruitment agency.
Be very careful with registering people as being 'self-employed' when they are working for you. The IR has quite strict rules now as to what it considers to be self-employed and employed. See http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/pdfs/ir148.htm
Basically if you decide what work they do,when they do it and how they do it then they are employees and you must pay them as such, and pay the NI as such. If you employ them as self-employed people through the Ltd company then you need to register with the Construction Industry Scheme, as do they. You then can treat them as separate entities from your own company and pay them as sub-contractors. http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/cis/section2.htm and http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/cis/section4.htm
The setting up of an agency is way beyond this little builder :?
