Hello, My husband is currently working on a contract that runs out this June. His tax etc. is all managed by and umbrella company and they make sure tax, NI etc is paid. He is not self-employed and has never been self-employed. Recently he has been offered 12 days paid work from another source, running alongside his current contract. This may be a one off but it's possible he could be offered more similar projects in the future. The main contract runs out June, as said, but he will be looking for another similar. His aim is NOT to be self-employed but does he need to register as a sole trader to cover this extra work on top of the main contract work? Many thanks, Jem

"Recently he has been offered 12 days paid work from another source" - Will he be paid via PAYE? If yes, then he doesn't need to be registered as self employed

If no, then he will either need to register as self employed or use an umbrella company to collect the money and pay it out to him minus their fees
