It's Andy here from GB Tradesmen. I'm employed full time and have a part time hobby building websites. I'm based in the North East and am looking forward to meeting some new people on the forum. GB Tradesmen is my newest site and provides free listings for trades people in the UK.

We allow trades people to upload an advert to the site, they can log in and edit it whenever they wish. The site is free and allows customers to add phone numbers, a description and a link to their site.
It is a "home made" site but isn't too bad. I can't post links yet but I'm sure you can find it and have a quick look.

Hi Andy.

I noticed on your homepage you are making use of two images for the hover effect (the van).

This took a bit of time for me to load the first time I hovered over the image.

You can do this with background images in CSS instead, and only use one image (you can do it with pure CSS if you disregard IE6 otherwise it's quite simple to do it with JS).

Here is a quick howto for doing it:
litetest.com/Knowledgebase.aspx/HoverOverImages

On your registration form, only two fields actually mention the validation error (email, saying "enter a valid email", and password saying "Must be at least 8 characters long").

The banner link on your left don't open in a new window which drives traffic away from your site.

Sorry, I start giving you website feedback here in the intruduction (old habits!)

I just had a new boiler installed about 1 hour ago! He was talking about website so I should have mentioned yours to him, I will do if I speak to him in the future!

It's very nice that you provide a free service like this, I like it!

If you are interested in website feedback do let me know, I got a few thoughts for you.

Hi Jonas, thanks for the feedback. The point with the van images is a good one and I'll look into it. I used to do it with preloads but there was still a delay the first time someone visited.

For the errors, are you saying that you had a validation error and the field didn't say what the error was? Could you tell me what the conditions were for this to happen?

Lastly I know about the link opening in the same window, it's a bit of a pet hate of mine when a site opens a new window for me so I don't do it. Perhaps I'm naive but hopefully if they like my site they will come back, or open a new window themselves.

Thanks again for the feedback - it is welcome.
