Hi I'm new and I have had 2 years experience in business and accounting. I am a student at the University of Sheffield. And currently I am in the process of winding up to make way for said university. However I will still keep my fingers in the pie, mainly for the rest of my life as once you've been bitten by the business bug its in your forever!

I look forward to the many discussions in the future and hopefully together we will make progress!

I have a question that has been asked and answered here before but that was almost 5 years ago and laws and companies have changed since then so therefore I'll shoot:

I propose to get into the line of trade plate vehicle delivery in my spare time, on my own accord as a sole trader. I am already in the process of getting a Shell and BP card. I have two questions:

1, I have read the DVLA form for applying for a trade plate and as the previous thread explains what do I put on the form as plate use?

2, I am having difficulties in finding an insurance policy in regard to the previous post I have been ringing all the companies you state and many of them are proving difficult in giving me a quote either because the rep has never heard of it or don't want to help.

I would like to jump on the plate driving band wagon and want to go alone (without a company backing me) because I want to do it in my own time and the time I have free. I'm more interested in international deliveries than the UK ones.

Many thanks in advance :)

You need a motor trade insurance that covers a 'tradeplater'.

The problem many people are encountering with motor trade cover at presently, particularly those under 25 or those with no previous motor trade NCD, is that insurers are becoming far more selective.

This type of policy has been massively abused for quite some time and because of this many insurers will not go near you, especially if you have less than 3 years trading experience.

That being said there are insurers around although this could be limited due to your age/experience.

If you would like to discuss your needs further I can always pass your details onto one of my colleagues wgho is a motor trade specialist to see if they can assist you.
