    Hi Tony,
I know the owner of Tiger Helicopters, well not as much as my brother who owns http://www.rotaryaviation.co.uk/, they get on well as Tiger done part of my brothers training and my brother puts some work their way.

As for the Tiger website, I must be missing something as I cant see any speech intro to their website.

I actually like it – well I would as I have sound on my site. The only comment that I would make is that it should add something to the content that I could not read online. That’s said it should not be so important that it might be information that I need and would only get by listening.

Bottom line the web is not science what ever floats your boat – or in your case rotates your rotors. :)

Please note that there will be an increased loading time if sound is included in your webpage. Many websites with sound now opt for a flash control panel with a "Click here to hear intro" button, so people can play/pause/rewind/etc the sound. Personally I find sound somewhat annoying, especially if I have music playing at the same time.

I am currently working with a few top web design companies in the UK and they tell me that due to the increase in broadband their clients are asking for audio to be added to websites. When you turn on your tv you always turn up the volume and think nothing of it. With the internet people are using the pc like you say listening to music etc. I can understand that sound would be annoying at that time. Although i am producing audio production for the web, i am still unsure where this is going. Will sound be used more and more or will it just annoy users so that they leave a site?

    Welcome your views on this

    Regards

    Tony

Do a straw poll here and get a rough answer.

I always surf without sound and on the rare occasion that my sounds is on while I am surfing I will turn off the sound on any site that makes a noise. If I can't turn it off I will generally leave the site. I know site pal is in a different category that the likes of music but personally I just like to navigate a site in my own time without any distractions.

It is a good question about where sound is going on the web.

I prefer to surf silent. The web is not TV and I go there to read info, not listen to it.

That said, reading on the web is actually quite hard work and maybe sometimes it would be nice to listen to a presentation whilst resting your eyes, but I believe you need to give people the option to turn on the presentation, not automatically launch it, thus interferring with the way they prefer to surf i.e with music or no sound.

To me the tiger helicopter website is hard going and completely impossible to read with Radio Tiger going on in the background. It means you can't read it and are forced to listen when what you really want to do is find and click the button that is going to give you the info you are actually after.

I have a merchant site and at the moment I cannot think of a single reason for using this product - except maybe to tell jokes - does your guy have good comic timing?

But imagine if every website you went to had a tinny american accent talking loudly 'at' you on it. Sound on websites should always be optional. I have broadband and can stream audio / video, but this should always be an option. Imagine buying a TV with surround sound and only being able to view teletext...
