I've just finished implementing Stripe for one of the software as a service businesses I own (www.credit-controller.net). I think I've used every other payment service that's been around in the past 6 years I've been doing business on the internet: PayPal, 2Checkout, WorldPay, SagePay and a bunch of others. Stripe appears to be much more polished and thought out. They're standing on the shoulders of the services they're competing with.

I particularly like that your customer can complete the transaction without leaving your site. They don't have to visit PayPal and then get sent back. You can do that with many other payment services but at the cost of having to handle the customers card details. Stripe does this without you ever having to touch your customer's card information. That reduces the security and compliance worries.

This means that you can produce a payment page that flows easily and logically and is not subject to the priorities of the payment service. For example: My priority is for my clients to pay as smoothly as possible. PayPal's priority is to get as many people as possible to set up and use PayPal accounts. PayPal's priority takes preference and their recurring payment setup screen has a tiny almost invisible link to allow people to pay by credit card. I eventually resorted to showing people a screenshot of the page and circling the link in red before sending them off to PayPal.

"My only concern with Stripe is they refuse to work with 3d secure. For those that are using it and happy with it, what are the fraud prevention measures like? Do they work?"

Didn't know that. This is what they say on their website "For businesses where fraud is more of a concern, we believe fraud is best addressed using other techniques that don't impact the user experience. We make it easy to use CVC and AVS checks to verify your customer's identities, and are continually working on improved automated systems to detect and prevent fraud for all our users behind the scenes."

We have some skin in this game, so treat my comments with caution, but Athos, how lucky are you feeling?

Not lucky enough to treat customer's card details with abandon, but lucky enough that if the risk is minute I think it's worth it to be a more enjoyable experience for the user.

It all fairness, I have no idea how much of a risk we're talking here.

Does Stripe have favourable conversion rate if you have customers in Europe and have payments made in Euro as well? More importantly, has anyone else experienced very poor customer service from them? I I sent them an e-mail and got a reply only after a few days.
