Hi all,

I am looking to join some sort of affiliate platform/program to sell my products through. Does anyone have any experience of using these types of platforms? Such as AWIN, Sharesale, CJ Affiliate etc. I've been looking at the reviews of different platforms and all of them seem to have really bad reviews. I was wondering if anyone has had any success through using these types of platforms and any suggestions of which ones to use and ones to avoid.

Many thanks in advanced,
Stephen

Here's a question for you. When was the last time you brought something via an affilitate?

It works for some businesses but in general people tend to buy direct or from sites like Amazon, eBay and similar.

good question Annoying Donkey, you have left us all speechless

your posting has been seen by 1K people, in the space of 6 months, without anyone thinking of an answer

I too would like a definition of 'affiliate' in this context

clarity will be promoted if we speak specifically of 'publishers' or of 'advertisers' - or indeed of 'publishers and advertisers' if that is what is meant

as a counter-example, suppose I advertise a second-hand car in my local newspaper

payment goes direct from buyer to seller, it doesn't pass through the newpaper's bank account

perhaps that is the definitive distinction

there's a Wikipedia article called 'Affiliate marketing', and it's quite good, but the author plunges straight in.

he doesn't start with a definition

Hi, I don't sell through affiliate platforms but I do use them as a publisher. I own a website Romantic Retreats where among others I promote some holiday cottages for agencies who use affiliate marketing platforms (and I get a small commission every time someone books through my website). I have used a number of platforms and I would say that for me as a publisher Awin has the most advanced technology (link building / stats etc) but they are very big and it's virtually impossible to speak to someone there.

I also use Affiliate Future which is a smaller UK run affiliate platform with real humans 😄 so you get an account manager and they regularly contact you and you can phone or email them at any time. So this might be a good starting point for you as they will be able to give you expert advice.

I hope this info is of some use to you, even though you would be using a platform as an advertiser and not a publisher. I hope that makes sense, feel free to drop me a DM if you have any questions.
