Hi,

Back end of last year we went to an energy broker who advised us to go with Valda energy and to take out a 3 years contract with them and foolishly we did. We believe we were mis-sold the contract and only entered into the contract after we were given information by the broker which was incorrect. We are currently pursuing the broker.

We have had various issues with Valda (Taking out a few thousand pounds from our bank account a few days days after we opened the account and had not used any energy as we were not opened and various other issues).

We really want to get out of this contract we were hoodwinked into but don't know how to go about it. Although we have argued that the broker was at fault even if he was I am not sure it affects the contract with Valda.

Has anybody else had any experience of Valda and getting out of their contract.

With Valda, you pay upfront for your energy, more like pay as you go, so a payment early in the contract is to be expected.

When you say you were missold, in what way were you missold?

Prices were at very, very high levels at the end of last year, and it was a bad time to be shopping for energy, but if you just opened the business, you won't have had many options.

Unless Valda have breached the contract, or you can prove they were in cahoots with the broker mis-selling contracts, there's not really anything you can do to get out of it.

If you were mis-sold the contract by the broker then that is who would be liable. You're not going to get a penny out of them, or more likely their insurers, without a court order.

Hi
We’ve had exactly the same experience! We’ve reported them to OfCom & currently trying to get out of contract. I’ve told them continuously we cannot afford it. We was definitely missold because even in our Welcome Pack it said we’d be £165 estimated and were being charge £400-500pcm!

How’s it going? Did you stop paying?
Thanks
Katie

Ofcom is telecoms, Ofgem for energy. But you need the ombudsman,

But, an estimated figure is exactly that, an estimate. If your actual usage is higher, then your monthly bills will be and should be higher.

Have you submitted meter readings and checked the bills?

Hi Kelf,

We have had a lot of experience with Valda and have come across alot of people in your situation which is why as a business we do not include them in our portfolio of suppliers.

For your broker query you can follow the ombudsman alternative disputes resolution scheme providing the broker who sold it is ADR registered.

If not there are many other options feel free to get in touch.

Hello there,
I also have problems with Valda. Signed up nearly 3 years ago and my contract is finishing in Sept. I found an email in my spam folder that they automatically renewed my contract for another 3 years from oct 25 and apparently I cant cancel. Also I run a microbusiness and I know that they are not allowed to enroll it for more than 12 months. Does anyone have any advice how to get out of this contract? I spoke to them and they were adamant I cant cancel the contract - that was not agreed with me
