HAND KNITTED UKRANIAN CLOTHES

Hi all,

My step mother is thinking about starting up her own little business knitting and selling her authentic, personalised jumpers/poncho's, scarfs, skirts etc etc etc.

These clothes are amazing, she will use the finest quality of wool (or whatever material she needs), she has been knitting in the Ukraine for many years and now she is wanting to set up a website to sell what she makes, she has sold them in the Ukraine but there was quite a big interest in the items of clothing as the syle is Ukranian (although tailored to suit whatever the client requires) she just wonders if there is a market for it in the UK.

What do you think, would you consider buying personalised unique clothing.

Your comments are much appreciated.

Thanks
Sarah

Thanks Jayne,

I think she has some sort of "portfolio", which yes she could upload to a website couldnt she, i think we will have to just jump in and see if it works, i think there will be a market for it.

Hi Claire,

Rina actually knitted me the green jumper for my birthday present, i love it!!

I am not too sure what she will charge, i dont even think she has thought about it, or is probably having problems putting a price on them, good idea about ebay though.

Thanks
Sarah

how many hours does it take to knit one and how much does she need to earn?

You couldn't pay me enough to knit a jumper like that therefore £100 would be a bargain if I made it ;)

£24? Even £50? If it took her four hours to knit one then that is only £6 or £12 an hour for piece work and I suspect it takes a fair bit longer. And that's if she sells it direct which she won't, therefore she will see less than half the sale price.

I assume it is quite cheap to live in Ukraine.

Mortime Business Software

When I was about 9 my Gran showed me how to do some knitting so I could knit myself a Blackpool football supporters scarf. It also came in handy for strangling my little brothers and sister. :)

Sarah. Could your knitwear be produced by one of those computerised knitting machines? I don't know anything about them, but I would imagine that you could buy software patterns and even create your own patterns. Just a thought.
