Hand delivered flyers - covered by mail preference service?

Hi people,

Just recently I've been doing some repairs for some of my neighbours' computers and although I've never touched the residential market, it seems that it might be a nice little earner to do some home repairs in the evening/weekend because there are a lot of people out there who seem to be struggling with their home computers. Xmas is a coming after all.

I was thinking of posting some flyers through the doors of local residents to see if I could drum up some out of hours business, but I'm not sure if this would break the mail preference service. I get flyers through my own door all the time for plumbers, gardeners, cleaners, etc, and it doesn't bother me, some people are a bit funny about these things though. I'm just wanting to know if hand-delivered flyers count as 'mail' in the mps sense.

Also, out of interest do you think I would be better to advertise the services available as being from my company, or by me personally? The pro of doing the company is that it might make it look more legit (i.e. not just offering homers) the downside is that it might make my business customers think I'm spreading myself a bit thin... I would rather do it through the business unless there are good reasons not too.

Cheers.

I get loads of flyers through my door, if I don't want them, I put them in the paper bin. So I couldn't imagin anyone else kicking a fuss up, quite sad if they do :D Maybe if you talk nice to your newsagent, they may let you put your flyers in the newspapers.

Thanks Jayne,

I didn't really see there being a problem with the flyers, but I just wasn't sure.

Asking the local newsagent to put the flyers in the papers is an excellent idea, thanks. I go there pretty much daily (being a filthy smoker  ) so I know the guys who work there fairly well. I was just going to put a little ad in the local newsagents, but putting them in the papers is a fantastic suggestion.

My dad gets about £8000 a year worth of business this way. He's being doing it for 8 years and never had any problems other than a dog bite.

You some times get an old witch coming out and shouting at you but its very rare. If there is a notice on the door saying no leaflets then respect it.

Also make sure its fully pushed in the letter box (unless its a difficult one) and close the gate behind you, you should have little problems then.

My dad gets about £100 worth of work per 1000 leaflets but this does not include repeat work. It should take about four hours to deliver 1000 leaflets buy the leaflet distributors (usualy me) only get paid £4-£6 an hour.

It does work but you need repeat work to make leaflets pay.
