Hair Salon Supplies

Does anyone know who the major companies are that supply hair salons with products such as shampoos, styling products, colouring etc. and the equipment e.g. scissors, combs, hairdriers etc.?

I'm after the largest companies that do this ... I see some on Google, but will have to phone to see the size of them.

What about companies like CostCo, Booker and Makro... I am pretty sure they supply directly to 100's of hairdressers?

A salon I used to work for used 'Sally', this was a few years ago and couldn't say how good they were, but they seemed quick and friendly!

I looked in to setting up an online beauty/salon product store a year ago. It does appear that the vast majority of what you see in Salons comes from very local dealers, as opposed to a few national wholesalers.

It was my conclusin that to find good margins I would have to work a long way back up the supply chain. This was problematic as the dealers were very used to 'traditional business' as opposed to volume web selling. I also lacked sufficient industry knowledge to convince enough people to sell to me.

The cosmetics/salon industry is very tightly price controlled and monitored by bothe suppliers and manufacturers!

I helped a friend that owns a salon setup an ebay shop to sell some of the products she stocked in her salon - the supplier was straight on to it hinting at account closure.
