OK,

another update to come...

I was asked last week if I would be able to make a kitchen unit for the inside of a Landrover...

I've accepted the challenge, carcase is all done - 2 door frames done and it's looking good.

I'll upload pictures when I can :)

That's an amazing joint on this ...

Is that a single piece of wood on the ones going away from us, with a really deep groove cut into it? Or is it three pieces of wood glued together? If the former, how did you cut that?

one piece of 2 x 1 timber cut into 4 strips then measured and on the bandsaw I cut the mortise and tenon - took about 10 minutes per door

The grove for the slats was done on the table saw - two cuts ran parallel - run one way then turn it over and run it through again to create a 5mm groove.

Thanks most appreciated :)

Had to go and help a friend out on Saturday, he'd fallen off a stable roof and dislocated his finger so wasn't able to continue ripping it down... So I went up with a friend of mine and took it down... took 4 hours to take it all down all the while saving as much as possible with the existing panels so they could build a storage cabinet for gas bottles later... so...

I managed to finish this much off Saturday evening and Sunday.

Only got the second part of the top to finish and one door to be put in place.

I went with little brass latches instead of handles in the end only because I felt that it would be easier and give the fella the ability to lock the doors shut with stuff in while traveling.

The top is made from a single pallet which I found which was hard wood... checked it out with my mate over in Clitheroe and he thinks it could be either Maple or Sycamore... either way, it ended up with a lovely finish on it... one piece was a completely different colour, much darker than the others - he thinks this may have been due to the treatment oils they've used... so I had to match up the wood - using a dark oak varnish, I was able to skim the darkest piece then slap it on the two lighter pieces until it all matched. :)

Was quite chuffed with it as it goes... French polishers eat ya hearts out ;)

The big one at the moment is a two storey 130 sq m wooden building with an 18" concrete foundation. I've nearly finished it, but there are still four windows to go in the part of the end wall needs finishing.

Then there's the renovation of my old tractor from International Harvester (a 475 for tractor enthusiasts!) I keep fixing the mechanics, but it's beginning to look very sorry for itself!

Then I have an old Mercedes G-Wagon that needs TLC and an MGB-GT that really needs, well, everything!

I nearly forgot to mention that our old 'Smalley' digger needs fixing.

The kitchen needs a coat of fresh paint.

There are a few trees down and they could be cut up, so bring your chain-saw!

Then I shall be converting one room in the building, into a film post-production suite with 60-frame desk, 4K projector, Genelec 'Atmos' 3D sound system, etc., etc. and I would really like it to have a nice 'art-deco' cinema feel to it. We'll probably have to dig out the floor to get the required ceiling height, so that'll be a big job.

We have a small back room that I want to convert into a library (records and books).

Our driveway is full of potholes and it's 500 yards long, so bring a bucket!

Our fences are very tatty, posts rotted through and generally needing fixing.

Then there's all that gorse and brush on the front field. I've killed most of it and I'll zap the rest in Spring, but it needs to be cut down and cleared away.

That's all this year - next year the real work begins!

I have a friend called Keith, who... is the chap that fell off the stable roof hence the delay in me finishing the unit this weekend... :D

Both he and my other mate Woz could certainly re-build your Mercedes G-Wagon and tractor... :D

Keith is most probably the oldest friend I have who... is one of those... "Can do anything" type old school engineers... he's awesome. He's built a working scale model version of a V8 engine that runs on diesel... and a lot of other cool stuff!

His family use to build milling machines...

There's a write up here about them.

Had a bit of Oak spare, so thought I'd make another jewellery box... Went with the look of a retro sideboard for it... :D

Depsite a couple of mishaps I think it came out OK.

Then... decided to sort out a Welsh Dresser that we bought last year... it's taken it's time to get to this point but it's almost done... Personally, I like how the doors look I think they'll "make" the unit quite special...
