guild of master craftsman??

I have been considering joining the guild of mater craftsman. My kitchen fitting doesnt have any recognised body, ie gas fitters have corgi ( gas safe ) and I quite like the idea of being part of something

Just wondering if anybody had any experience with them, whether they thought it might make the company feel bigger. Or even make people more likely to do business with us. Or even bring us in more money

Any guild members out there, any thoughts on joining these types of organisation?

complete waste of money, i joined for a year and cancelled the following year. Can't see the point in it, they do nothing for you and i gained 0 business from it. My local council runs something like a cross between the guild and mybuilder, which is far better as they do do the checks they say they do and also have a website which people rate you on how good you are. I think its also linked with trading standards. But thats durham council, not sure about others. Also it is only £90 compared to the guilds hundreds. But thats just my experience with them.

Yep, i have a good website which brings me in a lot of business.

I was thinking the craftsman badge would be quite nice to put onto the site somewhere and also for the van, and the copy within my quotes

Any other takers?

Done guild of master craftsmen, currently have FMB Masterbond, NHBC, Trustmark and the local council trading standards scheme.

The one you want is your local council trading standards scheme, all local councils have them, or they should. Show 'em some public liability insurance, copy of your letterhead and a book to write complaints in. Put a sticker on the front of the book saying, 'customer complaints', give 'em about £120.00, they'll luv ya for it.

You will then be veted and approved by your local council, with stcikers for the van and a little somefink for your letterhead/website.

Estwig,
What is your thoughts on these trade bodies?

How did the guild work for you and are there any others I should go for before this ( other that local council ) for kitchen/bathroom fitting

Do the customers appreciate that you have taken the time to join these bodies and respect it?

how do you sell it, just from the van or do you mention it to the customers verbally or put it in your your quotes

Im NOT going for it because i think its going to bring me in buckloads of money - I just think it might give an edge and let customers know that i value their opinion, take it seriously and work hard at doing a good job for them

I could be way wrong ofcourse - do people care enough?

Theres a fella down the local market, he'll do ya 4 stickers for the van, for a tenner. It's a bit like 'pick & mix'!!

;)

Your right, don't expect them to generate any business, accept the trading standards one, that works for us. They add to your credibility and that's what matters.
