Hi
I'm in the process of listing products on Amazon and was advised by them to purchase barcodes from GS1.org.
Has anyone bought barcodes elsewhere at a another reputable organisation so i can at least have a price comparison?
Thanks

There have been multiple instances where amazon have removed listings with an incorrect code. And more instances where they refuse to accept a code.

Up to you what risks you take.

Where it states (amongst other things)

Note: The use of false product identification information, including product IDs, is prohibited and can result in your ASIN creation privileges being removed. Product IDs will be confirmed against the GS1 database. For more information, see Product Detail Page Rules and the ASIN Creation Policy.

Do you even know what/whom GS1 is

They are not as business as such - they are the people that control the barcodes in the UK as part of the international agreement

They are the people that you should deal with and direct

Not someone else that is buying from them and then selling to you - technically not allowed

You join - then get as many barcodes as you need - and pay an annual fee

Do waste energy and time doing anything else unless you only want about 10 of them

Hi SueDi
I'm interested in this thread as I have the same question. I think there are about 3 international organisations that sell barcodes. When I look at the prices for generating a simple reference number I rather wish I'd started a business selling barcodes and not a business selling window boxes! Anyway, I wondered if you'd found anything else out and what you decided to do. The cheap ones are tempting.
