GPS Tracking/data collection for analysis..

Hi Group

We're a small service company and we've recently taken on a large contract that is nationwide. We're considering fitting tracking devices to our vehicles so that we can gather and analyse the data on a monthly/yearly basis.

My query is - does anyone have any experience of what product is best/most cost effective? I don't want to sign up to another company for this and subscribe to a monthly service, I'm hoping that I can buy a gadget, some how configure it to my computer, and somehow see the data from there (magically...or not...as the case may be).

If you have any experience/knowledge, all comments welcome.

Hi Mark,

As tracking devices I can recommend to use/suggest to your clients’ multipurpose devices (Smartphone/tablets) with GPS enable- it will require Internet access for returning their current position.

For tracking their locations from a remote application you can use applications such as Airdroid - Android platform so you'll need mobile devices with Android OS and you can use them to control also some functions of the devices).

The disadvantage is that number of tracking devices is limited - up to 6 for paid version. Another one will be regarding data collection to third-parties and processing it.


On the other hand, on the market there are specialized applications - fleet tracking management and many companies will provides you devices application monitoring for a monthly fee/vehicle.


One of my expertise areas is this GPS tracking - monitoring and reporting as we have in our portfolio software as Taxi dispatch systems.
