Gov gateway NI contributions & UTR

I checked my NI contributions earlier today using my NI number.

Since 2014/2015 the system shows I have not paid enough contributions and each of the last year states incomplete and advised me I can voluntarily pay by a specific date.

I have been paying my tax but have been paying through UTR and have paid each year more than the minimum but it is not showing up.

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this as it appears my UTR is not tallying with my NI on my data on gov gateway. Or do I have to check a separate system using my UTR?

What contributions have you been paying? If you are paying via self-assessment then they would be either class 2, class 4, or both. Of those two, only class 2 contributions count for pension and benefits. Class 4 NI is basically just tax.

If you are self-employed but never registered for class 2 contributions then you are likely not paying them.

If you are not self-employed, do you have a salary of at least £118 per week (for this year)? If not, then you do not get any class 1 NI credits, either.
