Gov Gateway code help

I've been using the Gov Gateway for VAT returns etc for some time and am now presented with a Q Code which doesn't appear to have an explanation. Thinking I had missed something I went back a few pages but cannot find any help.

Any leads to what I do next?

I'm not aware that HMRC are using ! codes as a part of their authentication (even two factor). It's usually done by SMS.

2-step verification

2-step verification (2SV) is an extra security step that takes place during the process for getting an OAuth 2.0 access token for user-restricted endpoints.

It occurs immediately after the user has signed in, and requires them to have their mobile or landline phone to hand.

First time through, the user must register for 2SV. At the time of writing, the options are:

• mobile phone - 6-digit code via SMS
• landline - 6-digit code via voice message
• app - QR code displayed on-screen, to be scanned using a device running an authenticator app

Second and subsequent times through, the user must complete 2SV using their chosen method. Because 2SV is part of the API authorisation process, users do not need to complete it every time they use an API, only when their token expires (after 18 months) or if they are granting access to additional scopes.

Clear as mud and all the rest.

I didn't get the landline option when I tried.

I could find no reference or link to the app.

Why was pen and paper so much easier?

The HMRC have now responded to my request for help. It is a 5 page document.

FIVE pages to get a password!!!!!!!!
