Hi,

Does anybody know what might determine Google to generate Sitelinks for a site?

The site currently has a sitemap and has a decent number of inbound links+ it's number 1 for a certain query, yet no sitelinks are created. Any ideas what I'm missing?

The problem is that there is very little information about the process, permutation used by Google to determine whether they will provide addition site links. You tend to find the larger and more established sites will have several links. It appears to boil down to authority of the website forthe relevant search.

So far as I understand it, keyword search volume for your website over a certain threshold results in sitelinks - how those sitelinks are determined is according to where your traffic mostly goes to.

It's an example of Google results being determined not by anchor text, but clickstream data.

If you have a particularly high-traffic page even outside of your main sub pages, there is a good chance that will appear in the sitelinks.

That's interesting. I have a site that gets only 8,000 UV/month yet it has sitelinks. I would have thought the threshold would be higher than that.

Do you have any idea where Google might get the data for sites that don't use Google Analytics?

paulus, I don't think it's overall uv/month at all for general search queries - I think it's when people are specifically searching for a website, or else a query that regularly leads them to a website - ie, keyword search volume, not unique visitor volume, associated with a website.

I worked on the web development of a site recently that had the worst site architecture you could imagine. It was put together over time by a couple of web designers and poorly patched together.

First thing that was sorted was the site structure. Within 2/3 months sitelinks appeared.

So it looks like the internal linkage was the main factor with this site as there was no significant increase in traffic.
