Google Site Search Integration

I'm looking for a way to add a really intelligent search function to our retail site. The basic search functions supplied as part of the CMS are pretty weak.

I have played around with Google Site Search and it does indeed find anything within our domain no matter how bad the spelling or order of words. Hardly suprising, since it's a Google search and they are quite good at search engines...

But in all the examples I have seen on other sites, the results space looks 'Google' and the search form is underlined with "Powered by Google".

Has anyone used this and is it possible (for the paid for version) to remove the 'Googleness' and let me rebrand the search functions and results as our own?

If you're going down the third party crawl route take a look at building onto something like Sphider.

I used it years ago to do exactly what you're asking, but I've no idea how the developments continued - might be worth checking out the forums or getting someone on that.

I've used Zoom Search Engine before, was really impressed with it, especially the reporting which shows not only what people have been searching for and found but the searches that turned up no results. I don't think there's much of it that you can't customise and there should be a free trial version to try too.
