Hi

Thinking of setting up Google Shopping / Products. I think its adwords based now.

But reading about it I have to get my products out of magento and into the Merchant Center product feed. Is that right?

Anyone doing this or can help me do this please?

Yes that's correct, open a merchant center account, submit your product feed and then create your Product Listing Ad (PLA) campaigns within AdWords.

We use the Data Feed Manager extension in Magento.

The key is to optimise your product feeds so consider attributes associated to your products, the more information you submit, the better you will fair.

Additionally I recommend creating granular PLA campaigns, at product level, this is where we've seen our best returns for our eComm clients...

Hope that helps...

Our Google Shopping Feed extension from Rocket Web for Magento is quite popular in the UK. We support all product types including Google's apparel taxonomy specific to the UK. If there's ever a UK feature we're missing, we're happy to build it into a new release. Current documentation and version release notes are always available on our site if you want to check out exactly what our extension will do.

Google Shopping Feed from Rocket Web is definitely more advanced than competitive products which just allow for mapping simple Magento attributes to columns in the feed. When you get into more advanced things like sending Google your aggregate product ratings, or getting a meaningful google category and product type for each of your products without weeks of data entry, then it's hard to compete with our product.

Does the built in one still require you to resubmit products manually every 30 days? I had clients years ago that would always forget about that and complained about it.

The built in one of pretty simple with what you can do as well. For example, the only way to define Google Product Types and Product Categories would be to create a product level attribute and do data entry for each product.

With the built in solution and other solutions that only let you map product attributes to columns in a feed, you either end up with a large volume of data entry or more often you skip entering good data for your products and just get something together that Google will accept. Our Google Shopping Feed solution tries to make it as easy as possible to supply Google with the most relevant product data you can.
