Ever since facebook started PPC ads I have experimented with it. Same campaign for a month.Hitherto I have switched the campaigns off as I have found that they have not produced a satisfactory return.

A year on I have just run FB campaign again and it is actually paying off and in fact seems to be more productive than Adwords. Same campaign as previously, nothing changed except the outcome.

Anyone else found this has happened with their campaigns?

No not really, can you share some more information on your campaign types?

Essentially, most people run search campaigns on Google & more akin to display campaigns on Facebook, so generally you're not comparing like with like.

The real key to both is targeting & setup: -
  • For Facebook its about demographics & geographic targeting, ensuring you have the Facebook pixel setup to improve your campaign targeting & accuracy.
  • For AdWords PPC its about proper keyword research & selection, geographic & demographic targeting, well written adverts & landing pages, plus conversion tracking & regular analysis/negative keyword setup. This improves campaign ROI, to avoid wasting money on irrelevant keywords & searches.

The FB campaign i,of course much more attuned to demographics and interests. However, what is interesting me is that the exact same campaign is proving so significantly more productive than when that campaign was run a year ago. Indeed, I waited a full 12 months before re-running the experiment.

Next week I will try a "black belt" experiment and turn off Adwords and compare the outcomes.
