Google+ Pages launched last week

Just in case you were not aware "Google+ Pages" launched last week. We think in time "Google+ Pages" (and Google+) are going to hit FaceBook.

In fact we are not bothering with our FaceBook account any more and you can see our "Google+ Page" by clicking on the "g+" link on our webstore website as below.

Just in case you need help setting up a "Google+ Page" for your company our own instructions are as below:-

(1) Go to https://www.google.com/+/business/index.html

(2) Click on "Create Your Google + Page"

(3) Click on "sign in" with your email and password used to access your Google account

(a) If you have NOT previously entered your name / gender / birthday you will need to do so.

(b) If you have previously entered your name / gender / birthday - you should be taken to your personal Google+ account at https://plus.google.com/

You can ignore doing anything with your personal Google+ account and go straight to click on the RHS button "Create a Google+ page" which will take you to https://plus.google.com/pages/create

(4) Click on an appropriate category say "Company, Institution or Organisation" and complete the form

(5) Complete the page headed "Get the word out" and then click on "finish"

(6) That should take you to https://plus.google.com/b/[number]/welcome

(7) Below the [your company name] image on the LHS you should see "1 page" (if you just have one "Google+ Page") with a drop down click on that and then click on "Manage your pages" and from that you can edit your "Google+ Page(s)" and Google+ account or just click on the small profile image and that will take you to the edit page. (You can have/manage multiple "Google+ Page(s)" from within your Google+ account).

(8) You will also need to add the "g+" button to your website by using the code provided by Google

http://visual.ly/uk-state-social-media-2011 A simple yet effective infograph showing the key statistics across the social media world today. An interesting fact is the 56% of companies agreeing they are not moving fast enough on Google +.

Google + is looking to be an extremely exciting platform for business online, especially with the release of G pages. Although at present they appear to be very post base with limited interaction, the ability to being able to target specific audiences will really help marketers.

The circle tool will also be extremely effective in terms of niche marketing as companies will be able to send specific posts to fans/clients depending on their country/ time zone / language/ culture / beliefs etc.

Can you have a specific URL for Google+ pages yet? You can, on Facebook. Not sure about G+

Unfortunately not, but having said that, it provides for a flat playing field with early adopters unable to grab the best names as with Twitter & FaceBook.

But what it does permit is to allow an unlimited number of companies etc to title their "Google+ Page" with the same name, eg "webstore" or say "webstore xxxxx" and all those accounts should appear in Google+ Search Results on searching eg webstore.

Also for your "Google+ Page(s)" to be found they should be linked from your website using the "g+" button & snippet and we think that's best done on every page - as we have done for example on our LostDogs.tv website.

If you would like to follow us on our "Google+ Page" click on the "g+" button on our www .webstore.co.uk home page to get to that and we would be please to reciprocate and follow your "Google+ Page".

One of many features we like with "Google+ Pages" is that you can manage multiple "Google+ Pages" from beneath your "Google+" personal account using one's single login / password - something your can't do with Twitter or Facebook.

Exciting stuff.

Interesting to know whether other people will be taking the same approach as webstore though - to completely ditch Facebook in favour of Google+, or whether most companies will operate both simultaneously?
Ditching FB in favour of G+ would be rather stupid, when FB has 10-20X as many users right now. G+ is the Bing of social networks, and you wouldn't only do SEO for Bing...

And.... we're back to everyone trying to fiddle the system, just like on FaceBook - and like how everyone used to trade links when search engines were easily fooled.

There are only so many hours in the day so we are putting our effort into "Google+ Pages" and Twitter. The great thing we find about "Google+ Pages" (we currently have 5) is that you can manage them all within a single Google+ account.

Actually we don't think searching anonymously in Google Search will come into the equation with "Google+ Pages". Its more about getting people into your "Google Circles" so you can spread your news/info more effectively and likewise follow news/info from others in "Google Circles" you set to follow. You can create loads of custom circles eg family, friends, customers, suppliers, people met on holiday, etc etc and then customise who sees what of your entries - all managed from an impressive Circles graphics page.

Best thing is to give it a try and we think you will be impressed once you get used to it.

Sure, you have to pick which to support if time is limited. But why pick G+ when hardly anyone is using it so far? It's like choosing not to optimise for Google because you want to focus on Bing/Yahoo.

That's what I said -you're supposed to 'like' on FB or add to circles in G+ those you ACTUALLY like/or are interested in, not game the system to get people to 'like' you who have no interest in you at all.

I don't think this has been mentioned before (apologies if it has).
I've put a tutorial on YouTube that shows how to make one image into a set of five at the top of your Google+ page.
You can also download a free template for Photoshop to make it easy.
Just search for "Create tiled images for a Google+ Page" in Youtube, and look for my video - I'm AimiableSEO by the way.
