Iced Wonders

Hi,
I've recently started a cake making and decorating business, I am trying out Google Adwords but don't seem to be getting very far with it, any ideas on how to get higher on Google searches? I've heard of site linking but not really sure how to get into this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Laurie

Hi Laurie - I suggest you ditch the Adwords as in my experience, people tend not to click on the sponsored links... you could try inserting keywords into your 'code source' instead. (Keywords are the words 'behind' or embedded within a web page that search engines pick up on when people search those exact words or terms). Have a look at your competitors' sites, and right click on a body of text (assuming it's not an image) and select 'view source'. Up will pop a rather strange looking text document but near the top you will find something like this: (I have used our company website)

<title>Hymid | Single and two shot injection moulding | Home</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="application/xhtml+xml; charset=utf-8" />

<meta name="description" content="Hymid, single & two shot injection moulding specialists" />

<meta name="keywords" content="hymid, injection moulding, moulding, single shot, two shot, multi shot, tooling, project engineering, assembly, UK, overseas, moulds, toolmaking, brixham, devon, specialist, innovation, auto un-screwing mechanisms, collapsing cores, up and aways, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanically actuated internal tooling elements" />

Ok, I had a look at yours and there seems to be no keywords, I assume this is where things are failing. From the example above, if you searched via Google for mechanically actuated internal tooling elements then you will see Hymid at number one in the rankings (not that someone would actually Google these terms but it's a good example!) It also helps if these words appear frequently on your actual page text.
After checking out your competitors, draw up a list of words that you think people looking for your service would search for, and ask your web administrator to embed these keywords into your pages. The results arn't instant, but if you choose good keywords, you should see your site up it's presence soon. Good luck!

Hi, not sure if it is google adwords that you are after. these are spondered advertisement that cost you money to create a PAY PER CLICK campaign.

If you are promoting the website in the organic search it is a whole different thing. You need meta tags and links to your website, these are the convensions.

If you're going to use Google Adwords you need to set your Adword campaign up correctly. Most business owners burn a heap of money through doing this wrong.

Not saying you are. -:)

We recently advised a local B&B in Bude. This guy had a PPC company in Exeter running his Adword account. By the time we'd sorted his campaign out for him we'd cut his cost per click by half. So he was able to buy more traffic on a daily basis.

For your keywords you need to do keyword research and then decide on those keywords
you want to rank for.

You also need backlink building on a monthly basis to improve your organic ranking.

Looking at your site I think you need to have a heap more copy on your page. That's because you need to spell out the benefits of doing business with your company.

warmly

Mark
