I'm a big proponent of blanket SSL, mostly due to reasons adamcooke explained. But also HTTP2 is coming, a vast improvement to HTTP performance - by spec it doesn't require TLS, but most browser vendors are only supporting it on encrypted connection at this time (except recent Firefox versions)
