for seo, the code not good but could be worse. i'd go for a freebie wordpress site instead, which is not only better coded for seo but also an easier content management system for updating

sure, ironic that google will give us sites that are not good for seo. but google are more concerned about getting people online with free sites as a bit of a PR effort rather than optimising the rankings of those sites

I have heard Google now do free websites i was just wondering if anyone knew if they are any good or not and why they think so?

google blogger sites are good for "buffer" sites to help increase your own trust with google. if you have any content on you main site then "spin" the content ( above 60% unique ) and paste or post it in your free google blogger site. include and anchor tag, ( like a signature link ) to you main site.

blogger sites are in the main used as either a personal blog, very niche information sites or just for seo.

They're not to bad for a quick, basic and of course free site just to get you started - I think they offer free hosting for a couple of years also, backed by a government initiative called 'Getting British Businesses Online'. Apart from this they are quite limited and you will soon want to upgrade your site I suspect.

google and bt are partners

yep, a company I have a chunk of is working with this lot. We already work with Google on mapping and have done now for a while, we are one of a handful of companies who white list into google places I.E. no verification process, we just feed our databases to Google directly.

Just for the record, this isn't an SEO or internet marketing company it is a tourism based company.

Its not a good deal. The renewal fees i recall are larger than would be buying it yourself from a normal company. Im pretty sure you will get pestered by bt to list in directories and you will be pestered by google re-sellers to run adwords on a terrible site. It will look even worse than his microsoft site.

I set up a site and asked for further info at the beginning of the summer just to check out what was on offer.

I got a call from a rep a few months down the line asking whether I would like further web design work for £150 to which I stated I would be interested. A couple of months later I got a call from some Irish guy about it. Clearly, the big gaps in between sales calls aren't going to do them any favours.
